Goa was formed in the 3rd century as a part of the Maurvan Empire under the ruler ship of Ashoka. In 1312 Goa was governed by the Delhi Sultanate who had a weak grip over the kingdom and was forced to crowd it to Harihara I of Vijayanagara Empire. Later this dynasty crumbled into the hands of Adil Shahis of Bijapur and created the capital for Goa under the Portuguese as Velha Goa. Later after the Indian Independence, Portugal transferred their sovereignty to Indian army in 1961, resulting in the seizure of Goa and Damman and Diu to form the union Territory of India. And in 1987 Goa got separated as the twenty-fifth state of India.
